I can use a velocity to progressively slow down the video but I haven’t been able to figure out how to do it with the audio through Vegas, if it’s even possible. The only plug-in that I saw was pitch shift and that affects the entire sound file.

I do have Sound Forge and I’ve tried the Pitch Bend and it can progressively slow/speed up at any point I want but I’m trying to keep the pitch the same while progressively slowing it down at a certain point. Basically I’m looking for a way to do Time Stretch using an audio velocity envelope with pitch conservation. If there’s not a way in Vegas, maybe there’s a way to do it in SF?

    Thanks.

Yep…Easily achieved in Soundforge using “elastique timestretch”
    or “Time Stretch”.

The elastique timestretch applies a straight curve to the audio though. The start and finish of the audio is going to be the exact same speed, unless I’m not looking hard enough for an option that would allow time stretch points to be added.

If I use time stretch and I wanted a sound to go from 100% speed to 1% over a certain period of the wave file the only thing that I’ve found to work is pitch bending. That slows down the speed of the wave to match the pitch but I don’t want the pitch to change, just a gradual slowing down of the sound.

I’m probably not saying it right so here’s an example:

    Normal:

Slowed down from 100% to 5% using pitch bend.

What I’m trying to figure out is how to get that same smooth slow down effect but without any pitch shifting. Just the winding down of the sound until it’s almost a single frozen tone.

Ah, the tapestop plugin is probably what I’m after!

I downloaded it but usually my plug-ins come with an installer. I’m not really sure where to put it. I googled where to put the file and tried the system32 folder but that didn’t seem to work.

Stick the dll file into your VST folder and it’ll show up as an audio FX in Vegas.

Sorry, I figured out how to install it but didn’t edit my post in time. I’ll need to play around with this a while to see if I can get what I was looking for.

Can this pluging slow down the audio without changing pitch?

    Thanks.

Follow John Rofrano’s instructions in the thread I linked to and you should be OK.

Ok thanks, that was the solution I was looking for! I’ve been using Vegas for years and never even know how to use fx automation. That’s quite embarrassing.

I’m using the elastique Time Stretch and it’s working but I’m having a bit of a hard time matching the audio speed to the video. Often times it’s just barely out of sync but I can still see it’s not matching. What would be the equivalent of the max allowable elastique time stretch setting in the video velocity? I tried 50% video velocity and set the audio automation envelope to “5” but that didn’t really work, it was really out of sync.
