Newbie here. Using Vegas Movie Studio 11, posted a video comparing the results of slow motion sports action of Kodak’s Playsport 1080P 30 fps Progressive Scan mov format video versus Sony HDR-CX12 1080i 30 fps Interlaced. I have been using the Sony HDR-CX12 for three years now and have some awesome slow motion effects both sports and nature. Just added using the Kodak Playsport for goal shots of my daughters soccer. When stretching the Playsport 1080P mov video for slow motion it is very jerky. versus the HDR-CX12 video. Wondering why progressive scan looks so bad in slow motion. ???

It may be because the 60i video from you CX12 has more temporal information. It is sampling the action 60 times a second while the 30p camera is only sampling 30 time a second. More samples means more data from which to make the slow motion smoother.

I suspect that is true. I will try 720P 60fps setting on the Playsport during next tournament to see if that improves. It appears to have in shooting some samples around the house here. The render is 60i and I am experimenting with 24p and 30p renders and the slow motion seems to smooth out. Does that make sense? If clip is native progressive then it must render as progressive. If it renders as interlaced it becomes jerky?

    Thanks

There is no reason for progressive footage to become jerky when interlaced. Interlacing is just representing the progressive frame as two interlaced fields. The temporal information should be the same.
