  • Progressive scan DVDs?

    Hi,

I’m fairly new to DVD authoring. Is it possible to make progressive scan DVDs with Encore? (either NTSC or PAL) Are there any playback issues or compatability issues? Will they play on regular DVD players? Is there a real quality difference? If I have to create interlaced images, when is the best time in the pipeline to introduce interlacing? (I am creating original 3D animation, so I am not starting with interlaced footage)

    Thanks.

Yes, you can create a DVD with progressive scan video. (See the thread below this for a related question on the topic.) Progressive video will play on any DVD player (it’s a part of the spec), though when it’s output to a standard TV it will be interlaced regardless of what is on the disc. That really won’t affect how you create your animation, though. Just make it look good and let your MPEG encoder handle the rest.
