Progressive and Deinterlacing
There is so much information out there, it is hard to find a decent answer. I use the panasonic and always shoot in 25p (PAL). At the moment I am editing in PremPro, and while there is an option for NTSC users when opening a new project to use 24p project settings, there isn’t for 25p.
I know that this is to do with the NTSC framerates of 29.9fps and 24fps film, but one thing I am not clear on is the deinterlacing features.
From what I understand, I should NEVER deinterlace progressively shot footage. Correct? But how does Premiere know that my footage is Progressive as I will use the same timeline as footage that was shot interlaced by a more conventional camera? Does the capture device treat it the same way? Should I choose upper or lower field options so not to have interlace conflictions?? -

You should choose the standard DV PAL 25frames per second settings. And then set your fields to none or progressive- whatever your version of Premiere calls it. And you should not need to deinterlace as it’s never been interlaced if you shot 25p.
