I want to convert an Apple Pro Res 1920×1080 HD file to a m2v program stream (progressive HD).

the movie itself is 14min long. the size of the Apple Pro Res file is a little less than 18gb.

in Compressor, i’ve used the highest settings available (2 pass encoding, 30 – 40 MBits datarate. the file will be used for digital projection on film festival so want to make sure its the highest quality possible.

Compressor tells me it will take 85hrs to complete this encoding.
    surely this can’t be normal?

we’re not running this on the newest machine (2 x 2.66 Ghz Dual Core Mac Pro) with 6gb RAM, but still, it shouldn’t be that slow?

can anyone confirm if this is normal, and if so, are there alternatives that are just as good but faster?

[Stephen Vilas] “‘I’ve used the highest settings available “

Yea, and what other ‘highest setting’ did you choose?.

compressor has some settings that will make things take weeks to transcode.
