More info please – Mac or PC? What display card? Software Versions? Footage being played? Define “artifacts” please, not much to go on so far.
Thanks

October 20, 2011 at 4:32 pmHi Ken,
Like Jeff says, we will need more info about the media type (codec) I’m going to guess AVCHD, and the Version of PPro you are using. CS4 and AVCHD when playback was set to Auto or Draft looked terrible, but that was just during the process it has improved and matured with that format so much in CS5.5. The original media and export is not affected it was just early playback code of a heavily compressed CPU intensive, not intended for edit codec.
More details please 🙂

October 21, 2011 at 4:43 pmWindows 7 Pro – Premiere Pro CS5 – nVidia Quadro FX3800.
When I try to playback the timeline (Program Monitor) after opening a folder (for instance) ‘Graphics’, Prog. Mon. displays a portion of that Graphics window and playback is no longer seen in that window. Always have to re-boot PC.

Please apply any updates to CS5, and also look at nvidia.com for the latest display card driver, can make all the difference
