This company once had a plugin for AfterEffects called Useful Things. The technology was sold to SONY Digital Entertainment and the plugin disappeared, (along with the company).

This was a really great tool and I really miss it. Does anyone know of anything avalible that even comes close to what this plugin could do?

    Cheers.

I believe that part of the Profound Effects team now develop Silhouette Roto. Perform a Google for URLs if you want say hi.

As far as something similar, you’ve got Expressions, Shape Layers and a whole bunch of stuff in AE. Is there anything specific you’re looking for or are you simply looking for a jack-of-all trades plugin? There isn’t a similar 3rd party plugin before or since.

It was pretty unique and supported python scripting. My thoughts are that it was ahead of it’s time.

    Cheers

Thanks. I haven’t wrapped my head around expressions yet. I loved the variety and how easy it was to use.

    Cheers.

The brains behind a lot of the good things that came out of Profound Effects was Jeff Almasol. He now works for the After Effects team directly. He posts a lot of very useful things on his own redefinery website, in addition to the script packages that he posts on the After Effects Exchange.
