Profile/Project settings
I’ve been using DV Film to create a more film like effect on my raw footage before importing the outputed AVI’s into Sony Vegas. I thought they were output in progressive AVI’s but can’t see that referenced in the properties of the file anywhere. Should the Project be set to 1440 x 1080i or Progressive when creating an equavalent Blu Ray disk? i.e. do the proejct settings get changed by whatever you render as or do they need to match? I ask because the avi’s are nice and smooth bet when I watch on a Blu Ray from Vegas you get a very jerky look when panning. I know you get the jerkyness look with film espically when moving sideways and Iam learnign this sutff so appolgoeis if it’s a stupid question.

When you drop them onto the timeline, right-click and look at the Media tab and see what Vegas thinks they are?
Which AVI codec did you use to render them? Does that codec support progressive?

If you want to create a progressive Blu-ray disc it will have to be 24p as that’s the only progressive format that Blu-ray supports. I would use the HD 1080-24p (1920×1080, 23.976 fps) project setting so that your project is set up the same as your render will be. They don’t have to be the same, but there are “less surprises” of they are.

Thanks John although I’m using Pal at 25fps so I assume that won’t look right at 24fps? I’m using Raylight ultra avi codec. I’ll have a play and see what it looks like. Thanks. Andy

Well… PAL is interlaced. Blu-ray doesn’t support 25p. So I don’t know why you deinterlace your footage but the only way to deliver progressive footage is at 24p. I can’t imagine it would look bad at all since there is only a 4% difference in timing between 25fps and 24fps.
