professional dvd mastering
I am making a commercial dvd project, does this need to be mastered professionally ? or can I simply make a master in dvd studio pro and burn it on a DVD-R on my dvd burner in my laptop and then get this duplicated ? what are the advantages of getting a proper dvd mastered ? do they just use DVD studio pro ?

Mastering professionally involves a DLT or DDP output- which you can do with DVDSP with more time, hardware. I’ve never done anything other than submit DVD-Rs for masters, the one drawback is you don’t get copy protection. But every available piece of DVD ripping software can break any copy protection in about 5 seconds so it’s really pointless.
