  • Production Studio – HELP gone!?!

Sorry, I know I should probably post this on the Adobe Forums, but as I’m on here all the time I thought I’d see if anyone has had this happen….

I all of a sudden keep getting an error message (“The operation could not be completed”) when I hit F1 or navigate to Help in any of my Adobe Production studio apps. Anyone know what causes this or an easy to fix it without re-installing the whole package (which originally took me the best part of a day!)

    Thanks.

You shouldn’t have to reinstall the whole package, the installer is extremely smart…you can install the components you want……it knows what is already installed…it may take literally seconds to re-install the help files. Try doing a repair.

Aaah, I’ve had this before, this is how I resolved it:

Assuming ahc.exe is located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center, delete all of the following 4 folders:

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Cache
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Database
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Preferences
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData\Search

The only folder LEFT (LEAVE INTACT!!) under C:\Program Files\Adobe Help Center\AdobeHelpData you should have left is one called “Packages”
    then Run C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Help Center\ahc.exe

What should happen is that your help center database should get rebuilt and you will see progress messages as it processes each help package.

Thanks Derrick, but unfortunately that didn’t work. I deleted the folders you suggested (keeping backups on my desktop) and then tried to launch ahc.exe, but it said it could not run (just like it does when opened form any of the apps.)

I’ve tried repairing/reinstalling from add/remove programs but the only thing on there is Adobe Production Studio – no sub heading for the help center. Also no joy trying to reinstall from the 1st install disc. IT gives the options to either re-install everything (no ta!) or any of the indivd apps (minus AE and Audition weirdly – greyed out) but again, no sign of Help Center.

That link from the Adobe site talks about editing the registry…something I’m not comfortable doing, nor am allowed to do I think!

So….10hr on-hold phonecall to Adobe on premium rate line it seems…

    Yay.

Sorry about that. Worked for me.

And it doesn’t look like the 7.0.1 updates fixed any of the help issues.

Hope you get it sorted out!
