Production Monitor 101, what do I need to know?
Probably this is in the wrong forum… and probably the info is on the web somewhere. I’ve tried searching both and still not feeling well informed. Years ago I bought a 40″ 4k TV to do my video editing on. As of late I’ve been seeing noise int the shadows and poor gradients in the highlights (like color banding). Being the novice I am, I thought it was my equipment. Turns out it’s the display, it’s 18 bit color.
I’m now educating myself on displays. There’s production monitors like these:
https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-monitors/cat-videoproduction/
Then there’s regular displays with 10bit color like these:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236399
What’s the scoop. Why such a difference in price? I know I’m missing something.
Also color specs, what is necessary? 10 bits per color / 30 bit monitor? Is there higher, 34bit w/ alpha channel or not on monitors (which how would a display do an alpha channel so prob a stupid question).
I’m lost, needing help finding a new monitor lol Thanks a million for the help.
