  • Production Assistant 2 trial installer can’t find Vegas Pro?

I use Vegas Pro 11-64 bit running under Win 7 64 bit. I downloaded the Production Assistant 2.08 trial from SCS’s website. (There is only one version available for download so I assume it works for both 32 and 64 bit VP.) It will not install. As soon as I double-click the installer’s .exe file it says it requires Vegas Pro and a compatible version could not be found and the installer will now close. It does not offer an opportunity to point the installer to the VP installation location; it offers only the option to click “OK” to close the message.

The only system requirement I see listed on the SCS website is that the English version of VP 11 must be installed. It is.

I think this may happening because when I installed VP 11, I unintentionally installed it to a non-default folder location. I don’t know how it happened, but it ended up under “Program Files*Singular Software*Sony” (I used * to separate the folder structure because the forum software deletes slashes when I preview the post). The Singular Software folder is where I have Plural Eyes installed and the Sony sub-folder folder ended up there, at the same level as the Plural Eyes sub-folder.

Does anyone know whether the Production Assistant installer looks only for the default folder location of VP and gives up when it can’t find it? If that is the case, my only option I guess is to uninstall VP and reinstall it to the default location. Although I don’t like that it is installed in an odd location, it hadn’t caused a problem up to this point and I have been reluctant to do an uninstall/reinstall because I would loose all my VP settings and tweaks.

Production Assistant doesn’t care where Vegas is installed only THAT it’s installed. It looks for the existence of the Vegas key in the windows registry but does not care where it points to. There may be a possibility that this registry key did not get established.

Did you download this today? The current installer on the Sony website should correctly detect Vegas Pro 11.0. Older installers may not recognize VegasPro 11.0 but will still have the version number 2.08 because the product didn’t change at all, just the installer was updated when VP11 was released.

Try downloading the installer again. When I get to my laptop I’ll check it too (I’m currently on my iPad so I can’t check right now)

Hi, John and thanks for responding. I originally downloaded the trial a couple days ago. I just downloaded it again and encountered the same problem with the fresh download. This is the error message:

Check the following registry key to see that it exists:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\App Paths\\vegas110.exe

If that exists, look for the key:

    “Path”

This is what the Production Assistant is looking for to find Vegas Pro 11.0. If it doesn’t exist, you will get that error message.

The registry key was missing so I added it. The Production Assistant installer now can find Vegas Pro.

Thanks for checking on this and for providing the specific information that fixed the problem.
