  • Produce a 25 GB Blu-ray MPEG 2 disk?

Posted by Paul Gregory on November 28, 2012 at 12:37 am

I was just wondering if the Blu-ray spec & Vegas pro would allow you to create a standard MPEG 2 disk that exceeds the 8.5 GB size of a standard DVD disk?

The reason that I ask is because my wife wants to know if I could put several older SD DVD’s onto a Blu-ray disk so that the others in the family could have one consolidated disk with past holidays.

If I could have up to 25 GB onto a Blu-ray disk would most players be capable of playing it?

    Thanks in advance

Vegas Pro will not but DVD Architect Pro will allow you to do this. It is completely within the Blu-ray spec.

Since it’s part of the Blu-ray spec the answer should be Yes. I have never tried this though.

Do the specs allow for having more than one format, frame size resolution etc all on one Blu-ray disk?

The reason that I ask is that every so often I have produced standard DVD’s of the grand-kids as they grow up & I then update these to include the latest events. Now that I’m shooting in HD it seems a shame if I had to have the older SD & newer HD on 2 separate disks especially if the Blu-ray disk has the capacity to store everything on one.

    Thanks in advance

Yes. Obviously not in the same movie file but you can add as many videos in as many different formats as Blu-ray supports all on the same disc.
