Hi,I’m having problems rendering out of maya a velocity pass in order to use it in RSMB Vectors.
I’m using the lm2DMV_v2 shader that,in conjunction with motion blur activated( with shutter at 0,5,as the manual says) creates the files.
The frames look good, but when I import them to after effects and apply them as vectors, the image gets blurred even when there’s no movement.
It’s motion blurred all the time, not just when there’s movement.
What can be wrong? I’ve read the manual and the how to many times and I don’t know what can be wrong.
    Thanks in advance friends!

Do you have an alpha channel in the MV? And if so in AE your interp footage is not set to ignore.

Also: “To get an alpha from the shader, one has to check in Custom Entities in the Render Settings the “Pass Current Alpha Channel” option. Do not try to use the beauty pass alpha in Maya. It won’t perfectly align.”

With and without alpha, same result.Blur where it shouldn’t be.
The “Pass Current Alpha Channel” I suppose is in render globals, custom entities,Pass CUSTOM alpha channel” (not current) I checked that with the same results.
    Heelp!

Send me a frame of MV and color render pass at techsupport@revisionfx.com

Hi,I’m sending you a rar file with two iff sequences. One is a color sequence, the other is a velocity pass out from maya with lm2dmv shader.
I’m testing it in after effects 7 with the demo of RMSB vectors.
As you will see…there are a few problems.
    Thanks.

Hi,I’ve sent you a rar file containing a color and a velocity pass.Something must be wrong there….

    I just answered you
I bet you are having problems assigning alpha to the MV pass render

All right man,now that’s better with alpha.Works pretty well.
Now I have another question for you.
    It’s about workflow.
Imagine that you have a composition with three layers:
Background layer, character 1 layer and character 2 layer.
Would you create a velocity pass for each layer? I guess that’s the good choice, because if you create a complete velocity pass for everything, the result would have problems in the edges,am I right?
    Thanks.

We always recommend working in layers when objects cross. So your intuition is correct: create a separate object + vector pass for each layer.
