  • Problems with Twixtor

Hello fellow creative cows. I’m new to this, so I hope someone can help me. I recently got Twixtor for After Effects CS6. It’s a really good effect if you know what you’re doing; and unfortunately, I have no clue what I’m doing.

Here’s some background info on what I’ve been trying to do: I’m trying to slow a 3-4 minute piece of footage down. The framerate/fps for the footage is 23.976 frames per second. I tried slowly it down to 30%, and thankfully, it works when I slow it down. But what I want to do with the footage is cut it and move it so the clip I want to use will appear at a different frame. For example, the clip being originally at 1 second but wanting to move it to only 15 frames. When I move it forward, I skim through the video and the video starts to play backwards. I have absolutely NO idea why this is happening, but it has become pretty irritating. So if anybody can help with this, PLEASE help. I would greatly appreciate it!

Is sounds like you are animating the Speed% or Frame Num parameter of Twixtor, yes (and not just a constant slowdown)? If so, I’m guessing this is happening because you are using bezier keyframes instead of linear keyframes.

If you select a keyframe marker in the timeline for the Speed%/Frame Num parameter (which ever you are using), and select the menu Animation->Keyframe Interpolation… what type does it say? If you change the type of your keyframes to linear, does the “back and forth” problem go away? (you can change the keyframe type for all your keyframes by selecting them all in the timeline before choosing Animation->Keyframe Interpolation… menu item)

Hi, thanks for replying! Unfortunately, the keyframes are set on ‘Linear’ and it doesn’t change my problem. Do you think there are any other possible solutions to this?

How did you cut the clip?

Try Precompose the layer, moving all attributes including Twixtor and slide the clip inside the precomp to change the effective in-point
