problems with the collapse transformation & camera & null .. 🙁
    ————————————————————————————

    hey all,

i am having a comp named stage 3 which have some camera animation on z axis ..there is a text in this comp which is nearly one the edge.. only half of the text is revealed…

i put the stage 3 comp into another comp stage 4
    created a null
    created a cam
    cam parented to null

when i move the nulll towards left .. i cant see the complete text.
when i apply collapse tranformation i can see the complete text …but cant move it in z axis or try to rotate it.. by moving the null .. whatz the problem.. i am unable to solve it.. and
getting toooo much confused with the null.. collapse transformation, 3d and camera

any tuto illustrating the relation between collapse transformation 3d layer and camera…

just tell me what all should factors to be considered while using collapse transformation……and camera.. null layers

(in one of my comps, when i put that into another comp and choose collapse transformation, the comp disappears…. what could be wrong??)

    thank u guys in advance… !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cameras can’t be “collapsed” (doesn’t make sense, anyways). Only the topmost composition can have an animatable camera, all other cameras will simply be ignored. You have to create all your animation inside the main comp.

thanks mylenium for the early reply…
would like to explain more abt the project…
    mayb my workflow is wrong…

    ———-

    1. my First comp is “Merger” ..it is having some precomped animation…its having a cam , null etc… in MERGER , the camera moves in Y and Z… it has some text elements in it (ae text only) ..this comp is working fine…

    2. i made another comp “CUBE”.. a cube was made in ae..one side of the cube being the Merger comp..

3.new comp is the Stage 3 ..it hav a cam and null …cam is parented to null…the problem is with the precomp…

    its like
some animation happens in a comp … and i wanted that animation to happen as if it’s the side of a cube…etc ..etc..

what workflow would u suggest ????
can u give me ur email so that i can send the file to u.

    thanx

If your problems persist, simpley pre-render your comp and then re-import the rendered movie to use as a texture on your cube.

can u explain that to me..
    wat actually tc does ???
knows a bit abt it.. 🙂

in one of my comps.. if i choose collapse transformation.. the comp disappears.. what could be wrong ???
    kindly guide me

    thanks

Assuming you are already using the Advanced 3D renderer, there isn’t really much to explain. Collapse transformations will maintain the 3D-ishness of your layers – no more, no less. This does not work for lights and cameras, which therefore have to be used in the main composition. Beyond that the only thing to consider is that all compositions share comparable dimensions – having a layer 10000 pixels deep in Z direction in a pre-comp doesn’t work to well if your main comp is only meant to extend 500 pixels in depth. Probably some such dimensioanl issue is what makes your layers disappear. The only other problem I can think of is an odd combination of effects, masks and Alpha channels, whose rendering order are also affected by the Collapse transformations switch. I really don’t know what more to say.

[Mylenium] “having a layer 10000 pixels deep in Z direction in a pre-comp doesn’t work to well if your main comp is only meant to extend 500 pixels in depth”

i think that might be the issue.. will check it out..
i would like to mail the file to you.. can i ?
jst to know the error being made.

ur explanation have thrown some light on my ae knowledge 🙂

u have helped me earlier as well.. thanx a lottttttttttttt

    🙂

    thanx
