  • Problems with retarget in Cinema 4D R14

I have a bvh file with the same joints as the target even the the names are the same. When I hide the mesh and retarget from hip to hip everything works as expected, the target figure follow the source exactly. But if I show the mesh (visibility on) I can see that it is horrible distorted.

    What do I do wrong?

You need to align the joints of your C4D rig so they match the alignment of the bvh rig.

Thank you but i am not able to make it work, the mesh turn to mishmash whatever I do. However I found a workaround. In motionbuilder it works out of the box and I can export and import to Cinema with Fbx. If anyone is interested here is a link to the original C4D file, (a fashion catwalk). I still would like to know what was wrong!

    Howdy,

The joints in the 2 skeletons are not oriented the same. The BVH skeleton has the joints oriented with their Z axes pointing to the next joint down, while the skinned skeleton has all of the joints oriented with their Z axes pointing in the same direction as the World Z axis:

Thank you Cactus Dan it is really appreciated. It may take me awhile to sort this out there are things i have to do. First how to fix the joint orientation and second, to find out how they could become misaligned in the first place! (because I created the Bvh skeleton from the org figure skeleton). Just want to say thanks while I’m working so you know.

Yes, same problem here. Retargeting works from skeleton to skeleton ideally, but mesh after retargeting is rather distorted…and I can’t use Motionbuilder since I’m on OS X. I’ll see if I can sort this out. But it is not clear to me as to why Retarget tab doesn’t work. Everything seems to be Ok – hierarchy & bones orientation is the same….
