  • Problems with quality when capturing

I have a sony DSR PD170, when i capture the footage and then review it once it’s saved, it has a lower quality than i think it should be. Also, colors like red are pixelated with large blocks. I thought maybe it was just the preview in FCP, so I saved it with quicktime conversion in different formats and it is still the same quality (or worse). I havent tried compressor yet, but I think it has something to do with how im capturing. Any ideas on how to make the quality better? What am im doing wrong? Please help.

Make sure you set the correct Easy Setup before you start.

Preview your time line on a TV or a CRT. Use your camera or deck to do this.

If you don’t have this option because of a lack of equipment, set your Canvas to 100%. This will give you a better idea of quality.

If you are still nervous, output your captured video back to tape on your camera. Does it look different than the original footage in that context?

    Good luck.
