i currently upgraded my NLE from Sony vegas platinum 7 to Sony vegas pro 8, i was not expecting that i would encounter this problem. I usually render on this setting,

template was HDV 720 30p then from custom i would be changing to best and then frame rate 23.976ivtc film, field order was progressive scan.

Currently my old avi clips which was rendered with this method cannot be accessed nor play back after installing vegas pro 8. And when i rendered on vegas pro 8 for template AVI hdv 720 240, the video file is not readable by my video clip players like Windows media player, VLC nor real Player which when i was using platinum 7 it was ok..

What should i do? hope to hear suggestions thanks.

What codec did you use to render the 720p footage in Movie Studio. Did that codec get uninstalled somehow? That would cause Vegas Pro not to be able to read them. Also if you switched to Vegas Pro 8.1 on Vista 64 there are lots of codecs that don’t work. What else changed about your system?

yes, upon the diagnose of real player since i was accessing the video trhough it, ICM.CFHD. codec was needed, platinum 7 has this codec and when i reinstalled the platinum 7 again, i can view the videos again, but then i have two sony vegas running on my pc. Is there a way to fix this? Its kind of awkward having two vegas in a pc and whats the use upgrading if i would be still including the old version as well.

That’s odd because you used the CineForm codec (CFHD) which Sony Vegas Pro 8 has. Could it be that you uninstalled Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 7 AFTER you installed Vegas Pro 8 and it uninstalled the CineForm codec that Vegas Pro needs? I would uninstall both and then re-install only Vegas Pro 8 and see if that clears up the issue.

I have an email from Cineform that explains that their codec is not designed for 64 bit and that Vegas 9 should have an updated codec. They told me that Vegas 8.1 would not work with Cineform (my video stream is missing due to codec – audio is present). Their advice was to roll back my system to 8(c).

Cineform video works on all other programs on the computer – just failing in Sony Vegas.

Not what I wanted to hear. Any thoughts on this? It might explain the failures here. Work arounds?
