February 16, 2007 at 2:13 ami am doing a butterfly animation, and i want to have a trail follow the butterfly similar to the ipod nano ads. So i made a custom particle that mimicked the motion of the wings. that works fine, the problem is that every particle animates. i want to have the wing leave a trail that doesn’t move, but still follows the motion of the what the wing did. is there a way to freeze each particle after it has been placed? i am not sure if that is even the right direction but i really could use some help, sorry if i was unclear before. I hope this give more clarity for what i am trying to do.

February 16, 2007 at 2:22 amDid you want to know how..? I assume so. Depending on what your animation is and it’s length and what it was you where trying to ask.. I’ll guess. You can just create a Custom Particle under Particle Type and choose your Comp with the animation. I usually use a Box Emitter if your are creating some sort of level “stage”.. Just mess around with your Emitter Sizes. Emitter Size for Y would be 0, and X and Z would be however ‘wide and far’ you’d like. Be sure to turn the Velocity to 0. If you want the particle to stop emitting you have to mess around with the Physics Time Factor. I think the default is 1. You’ll have to keyframe that from 1 to 0. Plus under the “Options”/”Emission Extras” you can Pre Run the particle. Did this answer your question?
