Problems with laying to tape – HD
Hello
We are using FCP on a G5 dual 2.5 GHz. We have an Aja Kona hookes up to a Sony HDW-F500 HDCam deck and are editing in uncompressed 10-bit at 1920×1080. We have a HUGE RAID 1.82TB which is almost completely full (2GB available).
I am backing up a large project to tape. We mostly edit in SD on this system, but we are finally able to lay this large HD project to tape and free up some room on our RAID.
I have printed time code and black to a 40 minute HD CAM tape starting at 00.57.30.00. My FCP project starts at 00.58.00.00.
The way I normally lay off to tape is to open my project in the viewer, and select “Edit to Tape” from the File menu. I then set starting time code in the lower left corner of the Edit to Tape window (00.58.00.00) and put the deck in “Remote” mode. Then I drag my Sequence from the Viewer into the Edit to Tape window, and on top of the “Insert” region.
This works great if I’m laying off SD to our Sony 1800 deck.
On the HD Cam deck, I do that, and the deck starts FFWDing to the end of the tape. I can;t tell why.
I have checked the time code on the tape, and it is correct. I wrote a PDF on how to black and lay off to tape – it is available at:
https://www.dorseygraphics.com/review/intel/HD_Blacking_a_Tape.pdf
The PDF will be online until late May, 2007.
Can anyone explain what the problem is here? It’s my job to fix it, even though I’m a graphics monkey, not a video hardware/deck monkey.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
