  • Problems with Final Cut Pro hang-ups (way too often!)

I am editing on FCP 6.05 on a Mac Pro 2×2.66 Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 8 GB of memory. Connected to an Apple XSAN server. The material is XDCAM HD 422 1080p25. Some of the material is edited in MultiCam.

While I am editing the material in timeline. Very often Final Cut starts to hangup in the midle of something. After like a minute or so, it continues. And then, it happens again and again for a few times, before the problem dissapears again. This happens for maybe 5-6 times in an hour.

Eventually, one of those times, the whole application crashes, and it does not recover to its normal state, but I need to Force Quit and start it over again.

What can be the reason for this? The Mac is brand new and so is the server.

How is the XSAN deployed? How many stations, was it set up by a certified tech, etc?

seems like the 1st culprit. XDCAM should play fine otherwise, even off a firewire drive.

Fix permissions on the system drive using Apple Disk Utility, and run Disk Warrior on your system drive as well.
