your os is 64bit, but ae is only 32bit. being 32bit, the most ram it can address is 4gb.
however, with cs3’s multiprocessing (or nucleo pro), ae will launch a render engine for each processing core you have. each render engine can then be assigned 2gb of ram each. so if you have 8gb of ram and 4 cores, you can effectively use all 8gb of ram while rendering.
also, if you disable opengl for previews (preferences>previews), you can use ae’s multiprocessing for preview renders too (you can’t use opengl and ae’s multiprocessing together, they aren’t compatible).
