November 20, 2009 at 2:12 pmHi Tae, I’m not sure what your question is. There are quotation marks and there are double-quotes in most character sets. These are double-quotes (“”) while these (“”) are quotation marks. The character set that you use must have the ones you want. You also will not get quotation marks by simply typing into any of the Vegas text editors. You’ll need to cut and paste them from Word or some other application because Vegas defaults to using double-quotes.

September 28, 2013 at 8:49 pmI’m using Vegas 10, and when I copy and paste quotation marks from Word, they show up in the Generated Media window but not in the video preview or the rendered video file. Is this something that was never fixed with version 10?

Quite possibly. It works fine in Vegas Pro 12.0. I guess you’ll need to convert the Word open/close quotes to real quotation marks and everything should work fine.

Use Search and Replace in Word before you cut/paste into Vegas.

September 29, 2013 at 1:55 pmI’ve never used this process before. Could you walk me through it? I’m in Word and I’ve typed out the text (including the quotation marks) for one of the text screens that will appear in my movie. What’s next?

You probably have to do this in Notepad instead of Word because Word will continue to substitute the wrong characters. I would cut and paste the contents of the Word document into Notepad. Then select the open quote and use Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard. Next select the menu item Edit | Replace… and paste the open quote into the Find field and type a single quote into the Replace field and replace them all. Then do the same thing with the closing quote.
