  • Problems Loading XH A1 footage from Canon onto Final Cut HD

Posted by Mark Pagan on August 7, 2008 at 4:45 pm

I need some help troubleshooting. I am using a Canon XH A1, trying to
capture footage onto Final Cut HD via firewire. Preset options seem
    limited and either:
    a) final cut won’t recognize my camera
    or
    b) final cut will only give me a “capture now” like window that
freezes my computer after a few minutes of capturing.

Very frustrating, but as a new user of HDV I’m extremely open to any
troubleshooting or basic explanations of what to do. Any help would
    be of help!
    Thanks as always,
    Mark

Have you tried Final Cut Pro > Easy Setups > HDV 1080i ?

I’ve given it a try, but it gives me a HDV capture window with the esc button as the only means for ending capture (don’t know if there’s a way to get in and out points). As well, it freezes my computer after a few minutes. Any advice?

also go in the camera menu and manually turn on HDV output on the DV port.

canon cams tend to default back to DV when turned on.

To add to Chris’ post, it’s the playback standard in the VCR menu you need to set to HDV, and I believe the default is to Auto, not DV. Do this BEFORE you connect the FireWire to the camera.

    Have a wonderful day.

Final Cut Pro HD doesn’t support HDV, you need Final Cut Pro 5.0 or later.
