Problems Installing AE 6.5.1 Update Mac OS 10.3.9
I have tried everything. Created a new admin and used fresh installs of After Effects so it would be untouched, clean, and in the default area – the Applications folder. Tried copying the updater package to the root level of the hard drive. Enabled root user. The installer starts to run, asks for my password in, and starts to install. In each case it says “There were errors installing the software.” I’ve never had problems like this with updaters before. No one else seems to be having problems – I’ve seen no posts. Any suggestions before I call Adobe?

Try the “Repair Disk Permissions” command in the Disk Utility application, might help.
You could also start up the utility “console”, and see if the installer left s clue as to what the error was in one of the log-files.
