  • Problems getting Avid 1:1x 4×3 interlaced to DVD via compressor and DVD Studio Pro

I am relatively new to Avid, especially interlaced material. I have a 1:1 mxf timeline in 720 x 486 interlaced 30i format. I have been trying to find the right combo for creating DVD via compressor and DVD Studio Pro. Leaving everything stock or auto in compressor as far as field dominance results in strobing. What settings should compressor see the footage as, “Top First”, or Bottom? On the High Quality DVD setting in compressor, there is a field dominance setting with those options as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a weekly workflow I have to get narrowed down.

I think I answered my own question… I tried the 4 possible combinations, and determined Lower first on both settings gave wonderful results. Sorry for such a newbie question…

NTSC is always lower/bottom/even field first (except in some MPEG-2 workflows for broadcast use). PAL and all HD standards are upper/top/odd field first.
