  • Problems exporting to tape

Posted by Will Gaffney on July 7, 2006 at 2:29 am

I have shot a video using my Sony FX1, edited it using Premiere 2.0, and now I wish to export it back to tape via the fire wire cable.

The movie was shot and edited in 16:9, but when I export it back to the camera it comes out in 4:3 and the picture is vertically stretched (or horizontally compressed). I have reset all settings on the camera which didnt alter the result, so I believe that the issue is Prem Pro related.

Are there any settings on PP2 that I may be unaware of that I need to adjust so the exported image is in 16:9?

I have done this before using the same camera, but an older version of Prem Pro and did not have this issue.

    Any ideas?

Did you shoot the footage as DV or HDV? What are your project settings? Please provide more detail regarding your project.

The project was shot in DV and edited as the same. The camera is also set to DV when I try to export the movie to it.

That doesn’t answer my question. What are your project settings?

I’m not really sure what you mean by project settings but I guess this might be it: D1/DV PAL 16:9 Widescreen (1.422)

I was the only thing of relevance I could find.

    OK

The FX1/Z1 lcd displays HD 16:9.

If you are sending a 16:9 SD job to the camera, then yes, it will be in a 4:3 window, but anamorphic (tall and thin).

    This is normal.

Any DV format you send to the camera will be 720×576 pixels, 4:3 or 16:9.

I think you will find if you do a test, record a few seconds, then digitize this, with 16:9 settings, all will be fine.

    Cheers

This doesnt make sense to me as I have done this with previous videos using the same camera, but did not have this problem. It only seems to have arisen since I went to PP2 from PP1.5

I need to export the footage to tape so I can have it converted to Beta SP to be played on Television. Its really important that I figure out a way to get past this.

    Anyone else with any ideas?

Export to JVC HM-DH5U DVHS tape deck from premiere pro 2 with 1289 by 720 30p stream no problems during playback on the dvhs deck.

Any attempt with 1080i or 1080p transport streams from Adobe Primere 2 Pro yields a video that has mozaic like blocking and interrupted sound when played back on the JVC DVHS deck.

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

    TIA for any response.
