  • Problems exporting QT movie from XDCAM sequence

I’m exporting a QT movie from XDCAM sequence and it’s taking insanely long.

It seems to me that the MacPro I’m working on should be able to handle it- it has dual 2.66 GHz Dual processors and 4 GB of RAM.

It seems that a sequence that’s 20 minutes long shouldn’t take an hour to export as QT movie. And when I bring back the exported QT movie to reexport it through compressor for web download, it says it will take nine hours…

What could possibly be making it take this long? How can I make it better?

    Thanks.

export it with “quicktime conversion” instead
and try it with a different codec like uncompressed or prores.

XDCAM is mpeg based, so exporting could take much longer than non mpeg based codecs.

OK, I’ll remember that. What about making an internet version? I’m choosing the H.264 300 kbps option and it’s taking several hours to export. That doesn’t seem right. Any ideas why?

if your sending to compressor from the timeline it will take 2 to 3 times as long as your timeline is to compress that way.

I would maybe export a 320×240 (or whatever size the web video is) with quicktime conversion. Before you do though, change
the codec for your xdcam timeline to ProRes or uncompressed. (but don’t save the project after you do that)

then run THAT through compressor. Should be much quicker.

H.264 does take a long time to compress though, its very cpu intensive.
