  • Problems exporting Mpg2 from FCP5

Posted by Rick Barker on June 27, 2005 at 12:11 pm

I am receiving the error message “Video must be rendered before exporting. Please render clip” everytime I try to export as Mpg2 using Quicktime conversion.

I have rendered the whole timeline and mixed down audio but still receive the same message. Even a frame of black edited into the timeline brings up the same message…

The only way round it that I can think of that works is to layoff to tape and then put it back in again, exporting the clean footage.

    Help!!

Exporting via compressor is creating very glitchy exports. Any ideas on that too?

YES, me too! I haven’t found a solution yet, but I’m glad to hear others have the problem. I’m pretty sure it happened after that last update…there was one for “pro” users or something like that, I don’t remember exactly what it was called. At any rate, if there’s more than just us it might be an actual problem that needs a fix from Apple.

For the moment, I’ve been using Quick Time to compress which works just fine.

I don’t know about your main exporting problem, though. I don’t export MPEG directly out of FCP so I don’t know if I have that problem too or not. Have you tried exporting a Quick Time movie (not self-contained) and opening it in Quick Time and exporting from there? That’s what I’ve been doing and it works fine. (Although there’s no batch feature. I’d sure like to find a solution to the compressor problem too.)

Jeff- I was having problems also. Check your system (Mac HD>System>Library>Quicktime) and be sure you have the ‘Quicktime MPEG2 component’ (not just MPEG component) plug-in loaded there. I Recently loaded Tiger, FCP Studio and Quictime 7. I no longer could open mpeg2 files in Quicktime. Apple tech support stepped me through the fix. Kind of confusing but you need to go to:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/download/.

Strange thing about it is that it says its for Quicktime 6.5 and you’ll need to load in your software serial number for your original FCP software (starts with a C) not the FCP Studio serial number. The downloaded dmg installer runs and places the Quicktime MPEG2.component in the proper place
    (Mac HD>System>Library>Quicktime).

I am sure that this has something to do with MPEG2 licensing and Apple is selling the MPEG2 component for $20 for quicktime purchasers.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Jerry. I actually just bought that last night but I didn’t know all that other stuff.

When I get home tonight I’ll have to try all of your suggestions to make sure that it’s actually working correctly.

It works. Did you try to copy/paste it again.

    FYI,
