Problems creating a new font
Is it possible to merge together 2 fonts in Illustrator thereby creating a brand new Vector based font which can then be used in Microsoft Word (as a Vector based font?). Any suggestions are most welcome.

Nope.
You’ll need software like fontlab or something else.
