Try hitting the left or up arrow a few times to see if it’s hiding.
Also try pasting the text into a text editor (to strip gremlins), re-copying it and then paste in to FCP.

I’m sure the document came from another person, but I recommend getting in the habit of using Shift+Return = Insert line break (soft return or line feed in UNIX).

Hitting Return defines a paragraph break with is a carriage return/line feed.

Thanks, I pasted into text edit first and that works. Unfortunately I am working from transcriptions from multiple interpreters so a hard return is all I’ll get.

Using text edit is faster than pasting each line individually and retyping is out of the question.
Any other work around eliminating the middle step would be much appreciated though.

You could do a find/replace in the text document and replace all the hard returns with a soft return.

I’m not sure how to do that in Word, but it works in AppleWorks. You likely will have to “show invisibles” and copy one from the document and paste it into the find/replace window. Ditto on the soft return. Type one in somewhere appropriate, and then copy it.

The search/replace method as suggested is probably best.

Unfortunately there’s a lot of people who use word processors and even email like a typewriter, hitting the “return” key at the end of every line, rather than letting the software do an automatic word wrap.
