John, that was an excellent response to an on-going problem faced by NLE users everywhere.
We can only hope that Apple will see the light one day soon and give its users the option of leaving captured files in their native format.

If you want to render the m2t files in vegas, fast machines will do it as m2t files. You can render to Cineform 1440 – 1080 29.97 intermediate AVI files, which vegas 8 comes with free. Not with 9 Boooo!
FCP wont work with the Cineform avi files.
