  • Problems BM 6.2 / 8core / FCS2

I have been fan of Blackmagic for years.
We have at least 6 of Decklink Cards in our company. Mostly Declink Pro with dual option. However I haven’t ever had as many problems with them as I am having right now.
My problems started with 6.1.2 and FCP 5.1 as I discovered that when working in 10 bit mode I would get strange pixelation problems with any graphic files. Also I had to find out that cross conversion 720p-1080i is not working in 10-bit. Then along came FCS2 and mighty 8-core and BM 6.2.
This driver is embarrassment for a Blackmagic. Here are just some of the issues I have found in last 2 weeks:

    – Audio static ( clicks ) on irregular intervals, like every 10-15 minutes from HDSDI output. This might damage my speakers.

    – Audio seems to be drifting out of sync on playback on longer sequences. After restarting playback every 20 minutes everything goes back in sync.

    – Easy setup errors

    – I get dropped frame warning on SATA RAID capable of 380MB/s sustained when playing 720p 8-bit sequence. There seems to be conflict on PCI-e bus between Blackmagic and Raid controller.

    – 720-1080 conversion gives unusable results. Output is so pixelated that this is almost embarrassing.

Since there is no driver update in sight, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced similar problems and if there are any workarounds and solutions.

    Thanks

    Dado

Intresting!!.. I went back to old boot driver fcp 5.1.4 and old drivers and also could then playback 3 streams of 720P8bit/10bit and record as much as I wanted..

with fcs2 and BM6.2 drivers I get disk speed errors.. trashed prefs.. restarted and it seems ok.. switch rez to say PAL, capture.. switch back.. its back.. Not impressed.

Never thought about being a conflict with the cards! how did you conclude this?

Currently boot off external with 5.1.4 and 6.1 on for stable capture.. then reboot to edit clips. Not ideal!

Easy setup does not setup !.. possibly a fcp bug though.

static clicks.. yes… but thought that may be the fridge :-/

It is driver issue. They need to limit the amount of bandwidth that card is using on PCI-e bus in order to leave enough bandwidth for RAID controller. This is clearly not happening.

Interesting. We have a new 8 core system running FCS2/BMD6.2 that is acting like a complete bucket of crap. We have had to stop the job and send the designer home because it had been acting up so badly.

I am in the process of rebuilding the system. I might try pulling the Decklink card out and not installing the BMD drivers and see if that helps. (We can complete the project without having to go to tape.)

    Cheers

Alas, the system continues to act like a bucket without any BMD drivers installed.

My problems have been solved with new drivers and power supply replacement for multibridge.
