I don’t know exactly what to call this, but this is my problem. and I apologize if this explanation is a little vague.

Basically what I have done is created a person’s face in smoke in one composition; i have several layers and such.

Then I put that composition into another composition where I had my background footage and some other layers.

Now I am getting a solid cut where I have imported the other composition. As in I can see a solid line where that layer ends.

Is there any way I can get rid of this solid line?

    Thank you

So basically your precomp is too small for your main composition. An easy way to fix that is to change the size of the composition that the smoke is in. Open it up, press Ctrl + K, and change the size to whatever it needs to be so it doesn’t get cut off in the main comp. It can be any size, 4000 x 4000 if necessary (or more)

    Hey Jon,

    Thanks for the quick response.
It didn’t help. I’m still getting a line from the pre-comp.
    i changed it to 4000×4000
I’ll keep playing with it. I think it’s now that the face i have inside the smoke isn’t big enough & i’m actually seeing the bottom of her frame (from the green screen)

I’m not 100% sure I understand your description and problem correctly, but if it’s that you can see the edges of a smaller precomp or layer (the face) when it is used inside a larger main comp, a quick fix could be to just add a feathered mask to that smaller precomp. The basic way is to choose Mask>New Mask from the Layer menu, hit M on your keyboard twice, and adjust the feathering. Of course you could also draw a more precise mask with the pen tools, but it sounds like you just need to soften the edges of a frame so a basic mask should do.
