  • Problem with XML Import

Posted by Max Frank on June 5, 2011 at 10:06 am

    Hi,

I’m trying to import an FCP XML file. It says ‘Importing XML Data’, gets to 78% then just stops.

I’ve tried trashing the prefs and rebooting. No change.

I’ve tried breaking the project into 2 x 30 segments. No change.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Wayne

    Some questions:
    1) So you have the original project i.e. you are creating the XML file yourself?
    2) And you have no trouble exporting the XML … just having trouble when importing it (on the same machine)?
    3) And if you break the original project into 2 x 30 minute parts and export each as an XML, then BOTH parts fail on import at exactly 78%?

    Hope that helps.

Some maybe stupid question. Why do you export/import XML on the same machine?

    Hi Wayne

Andreas raises a good point. I didn’t ask myself as am assuming you must have some kind of reason … but I’d still like to know 😉
Either way, there is obviously something amiss here. Question: Does this issue only happen with this specific project/sequence XML export or does it happen with any and every project and sequence XML export? e.g. If you create a new project, populate it with a few test clips, and then roundtrip through XML, do it all proceed as it should?

    Cheers
    Andy

    Hi,

Why do I XML myself? Great question.

I wish I had a more exciting answer, but the fact is, I had an errant plug-in that I needed to get rid of.
I tried using Edit Mule Filter Remover, and FCP hang on the XML import – then I got advice on how to remove the plugin manually via the XML text reader here: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/1134135

But again, it didn’t import properly [as per original post].

Subsequent to my writing I’ve gone through the project clip by clip and removed all instances of the plugin by hand, so I’m back on track – but I am a bit worried that the XML function didn’t work properly,

I haven’t had a chance to try it on another project yet.

Thanks again for the concern and input.

    Wayne,

Glad to hear your back on track — you should have told us the reason why you wanted to “XML yourself” (great expression btw :))

Beside the Edit Mule app and Boukes setup you may try
    https://www.spherico.com/filmtools/removeFilter/removeFilter.zip
I never did set up any website for it but quite a lot of people do use it. Up to now it never failed.
So you may try (it’s free) and let me know whether it works.

    Andreas,

Thanks so much for the plugin remover – much appreciated.

    I’ll check it out.

    All the best,

    Wayne
