    Hi

I want to take a 2 second section of a clip, and have it ramp down from 100% to 50% over the 2 seconds. So far so simple.

However, the section I want to apply the speed effect to is a tiny part of a 35 minute clip, so when I go to the time remap interface in the viewer, I cannot keyframe the speed with any accuracy. If I move the keyframes even minutely, I end up sending the clip into reverse or up to 300% +.

I understand a 100% clip should appear as a diagonal line in the Time Remap graph, which when you view the entire clip, it does, but when I zoom into the area I want to adjust it looks like a straight line because it’s such a small part of the bigger clip.

    Please help!

This is part of the problem of digitizing long loads instead of logging and capturing specific clips.

My suggestion is to export a Self Contained movie of the section you want to time remap plus handles on either side and bring that back in to FCP. Now edit that into your timeline and apply the time remapping.

I would probably put about 3 seconds of handles on either side to give you plenty of room for transitions.

Thanks for that,it does work, but what a ridiculous workaround to have to do! It really isn’t practical for me, for many reasons to have to capture in 5 minute long chunks. Think Apple need to sort this out!

Agreed. This “solution” to FCP’s useless speed ramping means it just can’t be used for fast turnaround ‘as live’ edits that I often work in. Unfortunately Avid really is the only way to go on this. Surprising that Apple haven’t made this less clunky yet.

Hi Rose, actually I think you’ll find a simple subclip (Cmd-U) of the section you want to remap should work just fine. Seem to recall that was how I simplified the issue if and when I needed to.
