I seem to be having an odd problem when i go to render my scene. When I go to render via the picture viewer it simply says preparing and takes a full 2 mins to render a single frame. When I do a test Ctrl R render it does it in less than a second. Anyone have a clue as to what is going on?

Make sure all your effects in your scene are pre-calculated or cached. If not, things like Hair, MoGraph effects, Thinking Particles etc. need to be calculated by the standalone render process which means it virtually plays them thru until it reaches the frame you actually want to render. Rendering in the editor windows is different from that as it always reflects the current scene state but can contain errors.

    Hi,
check if you have used very different settings for HN subdivisons for rendering and editor. If it looks ok when rendered in the viewport then adjust the HNs render subdivision to the editor value.
    Cheers

    Mylenium,
I am having the same problem as this poster had. Your response was:
“Make sure all your effects in your scene are pre-calculated or cached. If not, things like Hair, MoGraph effects, Thinking Particles etc.”
I think this would solve my problem, but i don’t know how to do what you advised. Can you point me in the right direction? Specifically, i have some hair in a scene and when i send it out to my render farm of 3 pc’s, each one takes 6 minutes per frame to render vs. less then a minute in the editor render.
