  • Problem with rendering RGB + alpha

I have AE 6.5. I suddenly began having .AVI’s with alpha channel rendering with a flickering background with numerous flashing colors.
I did system restore, reinstalled 6.5 with no help.
No new programs, not hooked to internet, using 2 gigs RAM with AMD athalon FX 53,Nvidia GeForce FX 5500.

I tried several different projects which have previously worked and they do the same thing.
Rendering as Video for Windows with no compression. RGB + Alpha
Rendering with just RGB doesn’t have the flickering, etc.
Preview set to “off” in comp window.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Dave,
Thanks for answering. I had already set the “Rendering Plug-in” to “Advanced 3D” ie turned off “open GL hardware” in the advanced settings of the comp with no help so I changed to “standard 3D” and that didn’t help.

I then copied the project to another computer and it rendered out perfectly with alpha chanel, etc. This is a simple comp with text and fractal noise and glow applied (an Ayato.com).

I’m thinking it must be a hardware problem now, but do you have any idea where I should start with that?
    Thanks in advance.

    Dave,
The “non working computer” actually worked perfectly alpha channel and all up, for three years , up until about two weeks ago.

I’ll try the QT idea. Do you think it is possible for a codec to suddenly become corrupt and if so, is it possible to remove it and replace with a functional one?
    Thanks,
    John

    Dave,
I feel like an idiot (my very first time LOL). As I mentioned when I rendered out Video for Windows using the uncompressed format I kept getting these flashing lights when I played back on Windows Media Player.

For some reason, I never tested the clips in Premiere. Today I did, and they play perfectly in Premiere with the alpha channel and everything.
I guess this must be a problem with Windows Media Player, and I’ll have to deal with that. Anyway, I think the AE is ok.

    Thanks again for your help.
