Problem With PPro 1.5 – Media Offline
I’m working on a project that’s pretty close to being finished, but I’m having problems galore with PPro (1.5). The project, about 66gb, is stored on a fairly new 500gb external HD.
The first problem I’m having is with rendering. I’ve applied a few effects, like color corrector, levels, sharpen, and had to use proDad (similar to SteadyMove) and NeatVideo to reduce some noise. I understand that it’s going to take a while to render, but Premiere either freezes, renders some of it and stops (yeah, I have the work area bar covering the entire sequence), or doesn’t render at all after the dialog box pops up (in this case, I get the details, like how much time has elapsed, but there aren’t any signs of progress).
Second, I was finally able to get the whole sequence rendered and went to export it using the ‘Export Movie’ option (saving it as an avi and using another program to encode), but when I watched the exported avi, the last 5:30-6 minutes of the sequence was gone. I’m certain I’d selected ‘Entire Sequence’ when I exported it and had the Out point set at about 30 seconds after the last clip on the timeline. So, I re-exported it, or so I thought, and got the same thing as when I tried to render the sequence: no signs of progress. The last time I tried to export it, I walked away since everything looked good, and when I came back, the estimated time left was over 2 hours. Tried exporting again, only this time, the last 5:30-6 minutes of audio sounded like it was underwater. I played it back in Premiere and yep, underwater audio. I’m not sure what I did, but a few minutes later, the audio sounded fine. Then, Premiere froze and I had to do the ctrl-alt-del thing to get it to go a way. This happened a couple of times. I finally restarted my computer, but the external HD wasn’t recognized when it started back up, even though it powered on. I disconnected it and plugged it back in, and that’s when the media went offline. It’s about 2 tapes worth of footage.
The files are still on the HD and that’s the only problem I can see, but I couldn’t relink the media – got an error message saying that it was unsupported or corrupt – and I can’t play either of them in WMP. Starting a new project and importing the files results in the same error. Is my only option re-capturing the footage, or am I bound to suffer a larger loss?
