Problem with NTSC U-Matic tapes playback
Hello,
Revival-Music is a music label and tv producer which headquarters are in France. We have our US office in Bradenton, Florida.
At present, we plan to digitize all our analog tapes, in particular the NTSC U-Matic archives. We made some testings but we have some problems.
The equipment we use is the following :
– SONY VO-7630 PAL/NTSC U-Matic recorder
– GTH ELECTRONICS ACE (Advanced Converter Enhancer) PAL/NTSC, for video shift correction.
– SNELL & WILCOX CVR450 TBC & Standard converter. The U-Matic video recorder has composite output connection. The Advanced Converter Enhancer has composite input/output connections.
For the SNELL & WILCOX CVR450, we use the composite input connection, and the SDI output connection. The SDI ouput is connected to a Blackmagic Decklink Studio capture card.We tried to capture some parts of videos and we noticed that we have a problem when the picture has a large amount of red. You’ll find some screen captures below. The S&W TBC we have is unable to correct the problem. Even if our NTSC U-matic tapes are about 25 years old, the picture quality is awesome without any defects or video drops. Our U-matic tapes are original, not copies.
We had the same problem if we connect the UMATIC VCR directly to a TV Monitor. But I’m unable to determine if it’s a video tape quality problem or a playback problem.
I would like to know if there is some equipment which can correct this defect. What about the Xintekvideo products ?
Thanks for your help.
