  • Problem with Layer>Auto Tace feature in AE 6.5 pro— need help

Hi Im new here so please bear with me… here’s my problem…

    Im using AE 6.5 pro.

Step 1: import adobe illustrator file as merged document
Step 2: drag that artwork to my timeline (the comp size is definitely bigger than the artwork)
Step 3: i applied the LAYER>AUTO TRACE feature of AE 6.5 to create a mask. (i will now see the mask 1 property in that artwork)
STEP 4: i copy that mask and pasted it unto another layer in the composition.

STEP 5 (MY PROBLEM) as you all know what is supposed happen when pasting a mask — those beyond the border of the mask should be transparent – but in my case it is not. I Can see the outline of the mask in the comp window but the layer (a solid layer) remains pure solid and does not make the area beyond the mask transparent. how do i solve this? is there something that i did wrong? I can see that the mask has been applied on the second layer since in its properties there exist now “MASK 1”.

    thanks,
    Ramil

Maybe AutoTrace made an open mask, not a closed mask, therefore no inside or outside (to be transparent).

As yikesmikes has mentione, you should look into whether you have an open mask – although I’ve never seen AutoTrace create an open mask before. In fact closed mask shapes is what AutoTrace was meant to do.

Another possibility is to look at the mask shape’s mode properties.
