  • Problem with Importing AE videos into Premiere …squishing video

Posted by Nathan Quattrini on January 24, 2006 at 1:10 pm

Ok, what settings do i need to use to export from AE and import into premiere without it squishing my video? I tried using Microsoft DV export (compression), squished. Its using Microsoft AVI to export right now 720×480. I used PSD’s in the AE file and when I export and play it in Media Player it plays at the right resolution. But once I put it in Premiere it gets stretched or crushed. If I click ‘maintain aspect ratio’ it looks like letter box, with black bars. Why can`t i simply export the video from AE and use it in Premiere? I`m using AE 6.5 and Premiere 6.5 is that the problem?

if anyone has the time to download the file please do if it helps you understand my problem better. The file is 332 megs because of the bg video file, but its so you can use EXACTLY what I am using, so i am serious about getting this issue figured out. It may take time for me to upload it, so if it doesn`t work, try back in a few hours. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

Is your source footage widescreen? It sounds like your Premiere project is 4×3.

If you want to stay widescreen, make sure you work in a widescreen project in Premiere.

    Just a guess…

Nope. The video was captured in premiere using a firewire cable and the normal DV capture mode. All the video was recorded in the camera regularly as well…not wide screen.

Did you import into your AE comp as square pixels? Is your comp set to square pixels and locked to 3:2 aspect ratio?

By comp I assume you mean the exported video from AE. There is no option saying what to import it as. I click import file, select the video, and hit ok. The premiere project is the standard NTSC DV one (i`m not in fromt of it so i forget the name). And where would I check to see if the aspect ration is locked? Do you mean in Premiere or AE? In AE it was not locked. In premiere I don`t know where to find that. Remember, its premiere 6.5 not Pro.
