  • Problem with FxFactory Pan and Zoom

Posted by Chris Norman on January 7, 2010 at 2:26 am

Ok, I am just learning the basics of final cut and am trying to do some pan and zoom stuff for a slideshow. For some reason when I load the effect it changes the color of the picture to a purplish color, regardless of what photo I am using. The stock picture they use is a goldfish that is supposed to be orange, but this is what it looks like. Do I have something set up wrong? Thanks, and I apologize for the dumb noob question.

It’s not a dumb question at all but it’s really about FxFactory, not FCP.
Since you’re new, I can assume there is a function in the filter that you just haven’t found yet . Are you using the generator or the transition? They both work without evidence of a color cast on my machines.

I used the generator, but it had the same effect either way. I checked all the settings in the filter and they seem good, just like in the tutorial I watched on youtube. Any ideas?

    Hi Chris,

Could you please check the type of graphics card installed on your system? That kind of corruption should only happen on unsupported hardware, such as the old NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 that shipped with Power Mac G5s in 2003 and 2004.

You can determine what graphics card is installed on your system by selecting the “About this Mac” command under the Apple menu. When the system summary appears, click the “More Info…” button, which will launch the System Profiler application. Graphics cards are listed under the “Graphics/Displays” section of your system profile.

Hey Gabe, you hit it right on the nose. I have an older g5 with the nvidia 5200 in it. Is there a way to get the “Ken Burns” style pan and zoom effect within final cut without using this plug-in? I don’t know much about graphics cards but I think the next upgrade that would support fxfactory is the radeon 9600 and I don’t want to drop $150 into an older g5. Thanks!

    Hi Gabe,

I’m having the same problem, and I have a 2009 Mac Book Pro 2.93 Ghz, with the dual video cards: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. Aren’t these supported by FX Factory?

    Any thoughts on a solution?

    All the best,

    Bryan
