  • Problem with FCP batch capture = “building list of used media”

    Hello,

I’ve been having a problem with FCP (5.1.4)’s batch capture.

Whenever I try to batch capture some logged, offline clips, the “building list of used media” waiting box remains on screen for a very long time (up to an hour) before it takes me to the ready to capture menus.

My project and all it’s files are saved to an external FW drive. The drive has plenty of free space, and the four clips are relatively small (5min uncompressed, so around 1 GB each). No other functions of FCP have slowed on this external drive, though when I make a new test project and try to batch capture the same clips on the computer’s hard drive, I don’t have this problem.

    Any clues?
    Thanks!
    J

No clues, as in ‘I don’t have a fix’ but I do have a work-around because it was happening to me with FCP 5.0.4 on my 2.7 G5. Instead of choosing to capture all offline clips in the bin, instead highlight all the clips within that bin that you want to capture and then choose “capture selected clips.”

    Worked for me every time.
