  • Problem with FCP 5.1 & Firewire control with JVC-GYDV5000

I sure hope someone out there can help me out. I’ve just up-graded to FCP 5.1 from 4.5HD. My deck went down prior to the upgrade and I have been using my JVC GY-DV5000 as a temporary deck. However now that I am with 5.1 I am having device issues. My projects are in DV NTSC and the camera is in the vtr mode. While tring to capture the preview is disabled but I can control the camera with the log and capture window. I even see timecode coming through just no picture, only color bars with preview disabled. It’s like its not getting a 100% of the firewire feed.
Has anybody else tried to use this camera with FCP 5.1 and had issues? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there. I had this same problem as of yesterday. I’m using a Cannon Z100 as a deck and have a new imac duo. I ‘fixed’ the problem by switching firewire ports. Not sure that I like that ‘fix’ (as it implies there is something wrong with the other port and the machine is new) but that’s what I did and it works now.

I’ve been reading up on this and see this problem posted quite a bit, although not a lot of solutions. One other I did see was to reinstall Quicktime, but you need to trash some library files first.

Good luck – frustrating problem. Hope you got it solved already!

Hey thanks for the reply and support. I did re-install Quicktime and it fixed the problem, however I did not trash any Library files. But like I said it seems to be capturing fine. Should I be worried having not trased any library files?

    Thanks for your time.

I just encountered a variation of this problem and fixed it by moving the FW400 cable to my deck to the front port on my G5. Thanks for the suggestion!
