first off, i think you have enough ram to have the memory & cache settings at the default settings (max ram usage 120%, max ram cache 60%)… if you get too crazy with those settings it can cause problems and i wouldn’t normally vary those settings more than +/-10% unless you have ae7 on an intel mac…
when the crash occured did you happen to notice what the ram value was at (it’s part of the data at the top of the render queue)?
if that ram value is getting to your maximum ram cache setting (in the memory and cache preference) and then crashing. that usually means that ae is having trouble clearing the ram cache. if that is the case, you can evoke the ‘secret’ preference and set ae to purge the cache at set intervals. this may slow the render some and should only be used if you think that the cache is not clearing properly, then reset after you are finished with that project.
to get the secret pref, hold the shift key while choosing preferences>[anypref], then from the preference window, select the preference pulldown and at the bottom should be one called ‘secret’. select it and set the ‘purge every xx frames’ value to a number of frames that is less than where your crash occurred. so if it crashed at frame 100, try a value around 80.
if it works, then don’t forget to reset the value to 0 when you are finished. if it didn’t work, but made it further in the render before crashing, then you may need to lower the purge setting even more.
if you don’t think it is the ram cache, it could be multiprocessing… you might try disabling ‘render multiple frames simultaneously’ for this project in multiprocessing preference.
