  • Problem with dynamic splines

Posted by Andy Henik on September 10, 2015 at 10:22 am

    Hi,

I created a logo of a puppet on strings.
I used dynamic splines for this scene.
The pupped is connected to the end of the spline, and on top
at the beginning of the spline I connected cubes to controle the movement.
From the dynamic connection point of view, everithing is connected perfectly. The puppet has a rigid dynamic tag and under the puppet there is a invisible floor with a dynamic body tag, for the collision.
I animated the cubes, for the first 50 frames so the puppet falls to the floor, and this part actually works well. But at a later part, when I want to reverse the sequence, I copied and pasted the keyframes I needed to restore them to the perfect possition I need, and when I hit play from the beginning, the puppet falles to the floor, but when it comes to the part, the splines need to pull the puppet back up, the splines tighten but the puppet stays as is on the floor. What seems to be wrong with the preperation of this animation?
A file is attached with this message.
Hope some one could find me a proper solution.
    Thanx
    Andy

you could turn Dynamic off for the puppet (when you want it to “un-fall”) it will use the Transition Time number of frames to return to it’s start position. You can check Dynamic Transition if you want that return to be dynamic of simple interpolation. Time that to occur while you are pulling up.

    Dear Brian Jones,

First of all thank you for your advice.
I tried what you wrote, but after I turn on Dynamics again,
the puppet gets up on its own without even being pulled.
It also happens in a sequence of one frame only (a sudden move to the rest possition), and it is not changeable this way.
Could you play around a bid to find out how to make the strings pull the puppet back up again?

    Thanx
    Andy

[Andy Henik] “It also happens in a sequence of one frame only (a sudden move to the rest possition), and it is not changeable this way.”

if it’s happening in one frame you are using the Enabled check off in the Dynamics tag, you need to use the Dynamics drop down just below that – it’s On by default, keyframe it Off when you want the puppet to rise back up and it will do so over the Transition Time number of frames.

OK, I did what you told me. Now it is getting up with more frames to handle, but the strings don’t pulls the puppet. It only resets back to its rest possition.
I want the strings to pull it back up.
