  • Problem with Dynamic Links to AE – Help needed

Posted by Dylan Evans on May 5, 2009 at 12:51 am

    Hello all,
Iv’e got a problem with Prmiere/AE that I just can’t wrap my head around. I am editing a interview section and a PC has been left on in the background with logos that I have to mask out. I have been doing this by right clicking on the clips I want to edit on the Premiere timeline and selecting “Replace with After Effects composition”. I completed the task at hand but had a few Premiere crashes during the process, the files wouldnt play after these crashes so I saved and did a restart. On opening premiere I discovered that all the video files had been replaced with the most recent AE composition, so the premiere timeline plays the clip over and over at each cut.

The strange thing is that all the files in the bin read the correct composition but play the video from the last one, all timecodes are correct and they play through a varying amount depending on the length of the clip.

Yet another anomily is when I try to import and of the AE projects (right click bin>import file) and select a clip it imports the same last clip (not the one selected), but this time in the bin it has the correct name (i.e. the name of the last file). However if you open up a specific clip in AE and THEN import it into premiere the correct clip imports with the correct attributes, however as soon as you close AE or the project within AE the clip turns back into the last clip of the bunch.

I should note that audio is never effected, reguardless of the video.

If anyone can help atall then I would be eternily grateful, this is for a Uni deadline in 4 days and I’m desperate to sort it out, thanks!

I have had a similar problem. What I do is go into Premire Pro and choose:

    1. EDIT ORIGINAL – on the dynamic link you already set up that is not working correctly.

    then in after effects

    2. DUPLICATE THE COMP AND RENAME IT

Then drag the NEWLY NAMED COMP on to the PREMIERE PRO TAB OPEN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW. Premiere should open and you should STILL BE DRAGGING YOUR COMP…

    3. DRAG IT INTO THE PROJECT PANEL

and finally you should see the new dynamic link in your PREMIERE PRO PROJECT BIN…

    4. DRAG THAT INTO YOUR TIMELINE… and you should be good to go.

please let me know if it works.

    good luck!

    Hi

I’m relatively new to video editing and am currently feeling my way around After Effects and Premiere Pro CS3 as part of the Master Collection. I am, though, having trouble activating the Dynamic Link function in Premiere. Each time it returns the message “The Adobe Dynamic Link feature requires Adobe Production Premium CS3”. I assumed this function would work with it being part of the Master Collection.

I would be very grateful if anybody had any ideas on why this is happening.

    Thanks

    Pete.
