Problem with Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio

Windows 7 64-bit
Sony Vegas Pro 10.0e (Build 738) 64-bit
Sony DVD Architect Pro 5.2 (Build 124)

I have a wav file (44.1kHz/16bit) in my Vegas timeline and I’m exporting it as Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio (Audio: 192 Kbps; 48.000 Hz; 24 Bit; Stereo; AC3) which is the default template.

Now when I’m making the Blu-ray in DVDA it says that the audio has to be recompressed although I’ve set the project properties to AC-3 Stereo and 192kbps.

I have to use AC-3 audio, because I don’t have enough space for PCM audio.

I know it used to work, but now it somehow doesn’t work like before.

When exporting my intitial wav file (44.1kHz/16bit) to wav (Audio: 48.000 Hz; 16 Bit; Stereo; PCM) it doesn’t need to be recompressed.

So this has to clearly be a problem with my Vegas…

Is this a common bug or what am I doing wrong here?

Try using Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro instead. While the Studio version should work, I’ve never used it. I always use the Pro encoder and I never have my audio recompressed.

You can’t use the AC3 studio encoder with Blue Ray…. it’s good only for dvd. You must use the PRO encoder to avoid re-compressing for blu ray.

But why is my AC-3 Pro audiostream’s volume getting very low once it’s imported into DVDA?

The rendered file out of Vegas has the same volume as the original wav file it’s rendered from.

I’m using the default template (Audio: 192 Kbps; 48.000 Hz; 24 Bit; Stereo; AC3) and only customize the dialog normalization from -27 dB (default) to -1 dB.

Any idea why this keeps happening?

I don’t have that problem with AC-3 Studio and a DVD.

I used the AC-3 Pro codec, but am having said problems with the low volume…

Encode set to AC3;
Click on Custom tab;
On the first tab, set Dialog Norm at -31 (this sets it at unity gain);
On the last tab marked Preprocessing, set the Line Mode Profile and RF Mode Profile mode to “none”;
Save this as a preset.
